On April 24, 2007, the Public Defender’s Office started monitoring of shelters for elderly people. Monitoring is conducted by a group, which consists of eight people, lawyers, psychologist, and doctor. Special questionnaire has been worked out for the elderly people, administration of the shelter and personnel.
The aim of the monitoring is to evaluate human rights condition in the shelter, raise existing problems, and give recommendations to the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia and administration of the shelters.
There exist eight shelters for elderly people in Georgia.
After finishing monitoring, the Public Defender will publish the report on the human rights condition in the shelters for elderly people.
