Still No Entry for Journalists into Kareli Municipality Gamgeoba

June 12, 2007

Nino Chibchiuri, journalist with TV Company Trialeti was not allowed to enter Kareli Municipality Gamgeoba (local authorities). The security guard did not clarify the reason to the journalists, just stated that he obeys the order. The TV company journalists have already won  a court case, regarding the same issue, against Kareli authorities.

On May 25, against Judge Zaza Ramishvili’s decision the journalists shall be allowed to enter and carry out professional activities in the Gamgeoba building. The municipality did not appeal the aforementioned decision though the journalists encountered the problem again. It is noteworthy that neither sides of the case have been provided the court decision. According to Nino Chibchiuri Kareli Gamgeoba staff does not obey the court decision and act against Governor Gia Zarandia’s laws. Kareli Governor makes no comments regarding the fact.

Against the acting legislation the ignorance of the court decision envisages pecuniary fine or obligatory labour for the society ranging from 180 to 250 hours, 2-year custody, suspension of the position or the denial to the right to activities up to 3 years.
