IDPs Threaten to Derange the Auction

June 15, 2007

IDPs expressed their protest about the possible selling of their living building located in Tskneti by auction. Today, they held a protest action on front of the Ministry of Economic Development.

Coalition of NGOs “For our Rights” and political movement “Ourselves” support the IDPs.

At present about 5000 IDPs live in Tskneti. 14 years ago, Georgian government gave a living place to them there. According to David Liluashvili, leader of the coalition “For Our Rights”, Ministry of Economic Development is going to sell the building by auction on 21 June.

According to him, government does not offer an alternative space to IDPs. That’s why, IDPs face a danger to stay in the street.

IDPs declare that they are not going to give in and the protest actions will continue permanently. Participators of the protest action aim to derange auction planned on 21 June in the Ministry of Economic Development.
