Lawyer for Sandro Girgvliani’s Family Has Appealed to European Court

July 11, 2007

Terms on discussion of Sandro Girgvliani’s murder case expire at the Supreme Court.

Shalva Shavgulidze, lawyer for Girgvliani’s family, stated that the Cassation Instance has not started discussion of their case yet. The lawyer blames the Supreme Court for violating the terms of case discussion. Shavgulidze has also sent suit to European Court where he mentioned all judicial violations.

Supreme Court does not agree with abovementioned accusation. Representatives of the Court defined that the cassation suit was brought to the Criminal Collegiums on January 30 2007 and consequently the case discussion should have started from that date. Shalva Shavgulidze claims that he delivered the suit to the Court Chancellery on January 11 and the discussion term expires on July 11.
