Members of the Conservative Party Demand to Carry out Thorough Investigation on Girgvliani’s Murder

July 19, 2007

Members of the Conservative Party demand to carry out impartial investigation on Sandro Girgvliani’s murder, late employee of the United Georgian Bank. They will raise this question at a Parliamentary Session in autumn.

Kakha Kukava, a member of the party, said in his conversation with Medianews, that Levan Bukhaidze, a friend of Girgvliani, recognized Oleg Melnikov, an official from the Department of Constitutional Security, while making a testimony at the Tbilisi Appeal Court. Bukhaidze was on the scene of murder at that night. Based on the testimony, members of the Conservative Party applied to the Prosecutor General’s Office to launch new investigation on the murder.

Kakha Kukava said that although the Prosecutor’s Office formally started the investigation six months ago, they have not finished it.

We should remind that Sandro Girgvliani was murdered on January 27 2006 in Tbilisi. Officials from the Department of Constitutional Security, Avtandil Aftsiauri, Aleksandre Gachava and Mikheil Bibiluridze, who are accused for murder, were sentenced to seven-year-imprisonment and the third accused, Grigol Alania was sentenced to eight-year-imprisonment.
