Disabled People Are not Allowed in the Park

August 3, 2007

“Physically and mentally disabled people are not allowed to roundabouts”-these announcements are put up on the booking-offices of the Entertainment Park “Tsitsinatela” near the River Choloki at Adjara-Guria border.

People have visited the park several times but they were not allowed in by security guards according to administration’s order. These people applied to the Human Rights Center (HRIDC) and stated that they were not allowed to stay near the park either.

Georgian President opened “Tsitsinatela” in triumph last year. “Service 7 Ltd” for the Development of Roundabouts, Parks and Infrastructure runs the Entertaining Park. Representatives of the Park Administration said in their conversation with Human Rights Center that disabled people are not allowed into the park because of their security. Administration approves their decision by regulations used in the parks of several foreign countries. Disabled people state that the reason for their discrimination is that officials do not want foreign and wealthy visitors to see disabled people in the area.
