Word Demonstration in Batumi

September 25, 2007

Today, at 2:00 PM Human Rights Center’s Batumi Office held Word Demonstration “What Would You Tell Abkhaz People 15 Years Later?” in front of the Batumi Drama Theatre.

IDPs from Abkhazia, participants of the civil war, students, children and passers-by wrote their messages to Abkhaz People on papers.

“I love you, Abkhazia…I miss you…I have never lost hope to return to you…God will mercy us and reconcile us again…Let’s forgive each other our mistakes made during that terrible war. Let’s create better future for our generation to live in love. Let’s maintain peace. We must not sacrifice our children’s lives to the interests of the third party...God Bless you!!!-said Nana Arakhamia who lived in Gagra fifteen years ago.

Fourteen-year-old Edo Mzhavanadze sent message to Abkhaz people: “We are one and all!” He also added “Although I do not have Abkhaz relatives I know from my people what happened in the past. I wish I had Abkhaz friends.”

People who took part in Abkhazian war wrote messages to Sokhumi too. Avto Garchava considers that war is a great mistake, “God will bless all Abkhaz people. I have relatives there. We live in the century when it is impossible to speak with gun language. We must return there in peace.”

“Let forgive each other our sins…Let’s join and live in happy Georgia together…”said Lasha Gabelia from Sukhumi who works in Governmental Representation of Abkhaz People.

Demonstrators were given out sweets with small papers where Abkhazian and Georgian words were written on; like “let’s reconcile,” “We love you”, etc.

The demonstration was accompanied by Georgian singer, Zumba’s song “Hello My Abkhazia”.

Abkhazian war started fifteen years ago. Today the demonstration enabled people to think over the conflict again and appeal to Abkhaz people.
