Appeal Court Left Irakli Okruashvili in Prison

October 1, 2007

Tbilisi Appeal Court did not change the verdict of Tbilisi Civil Court on pre-trial detention of Irakli Okruashvili.

On September 30 the attorney of the former Defense Minister appealed against the initial verdict at the second instance court.

Eka Beselia, Okruashvili’s attorney, stated in her conversation with Medianews that the verdict of the first instance court was groundless and it lacked both factual and formal proofs to make final decision. Besides that the defense side did not attend the hearing. As for state attorney, she attended the trial at the Tbilisi Civil Court on her own will because the former minister refused to accept her assistance.

Eka Beselia stated that there are some other arguments to prove the verdict of the Civil Court illegal.
