United Opposition Enacted Manifest

October 17, 2007

Today, members of the opposition parties united in the National Council for the “United Public Movement” enacted the manifest in Saguramo. The document exposes those principles the united opposition will try to establish in the country after they win the parliamentary elections in 2008.

Manifest highlights the poor social-economical situation in Georgia; it also states that Mikheil Saakashvili has usurpated the government; terror is reigning in the country, human rights and freedoms are violated; the perspectives on restoring territorial integrity have become even more uncertain; most part of the population lives below poverty level; national values are neglected and Orthodox Church is suppressed as well as civil institutions and independent business.

According to the Manifest, in order to avoid social and political cataclysms, the whole society and the opposition political forces must be consolidated.

Manifest states that the only way to subdue the crisis is to elect the government whom the population will rely on; besides that it is necessary to restore the constitutional order in the country. Everything will be achieved through parliamentary elections in spring of 2008.
