NGOs Published Ten Preconditions before Elections

NGOs, such as the Georgian Young Lawyers Association, “Transparency International – Georgia” and The International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy, will observe the presidential elections which is to be held on 5th January, 2008. These NGOs published ten preconditions for conducting fair and free elections.

First of all, the NGOs demand the cancellation of the state of emergency, the next request is to reestablish and guarantee freedom of broadcasting, and the third demand is to reestablish and guarantee the freedom of assembly.

The other seven requests are the following: NGOs demand the legislature to specify the law regarding elections, the administration of impartial and professional elections on every level, to exclude the use of administrative resources for supporting one of the candidates, to maximally improve the electoral list, to adequately and timely inform all electors, to ensure the transparency of all election funds of the candidates and to publish the electoral district’s report immediately after counting the votes.
