Giorgi Targamadze-In the case of Complying with the Demands of the Government “Imedi” Will Be a Castrated TV Station

November 29, 2007

In the case of complying with the demands of the Georgian Government to the transnational corporation “News Corp”, “Imedi TV” will be “completely castrated and filtered TV Station.”

Giorgi Targamadze, director of the social-political programs of the TV Company “Imedi”, spoke about it in his interview with the newspaper “Resonance.”

While commenting on the meeting between the representatives of the Georgian authority and Martin Pompadour, the Vice-President of the “News Corp”, Giorgi Targamadze said that the Georgian side was represented by Prime-Minister Lado Gurgenidze, Aleksandre Lomaia, the Secretary of the Security Council, by one of the leaders of the parliamentary majority, Giga Bokeria and by Ekaterine Sharashidze, the head of the President’s Administration.

Targamadze did not speak in details about the demands of the Georgian government to the “News Corp” in his interview with the newspaper because of confidentiality of the issue. (Lado Gurgenidze discussed those demands at the governmental assembly on November 28-note from Media.ge); however Targamadze added that Mr. Pompadour will give a press-conference in London on the issue.

“I am sure that the position of the “News Corp” will be too principal regarding the principles of the freedom of the media. Other issues are still under discussion,” said Targamadze.
