Part of Georgian Society Wants to Hear Government’s Explanation on November 7 Events

December 7, 2007
Today, part of civil society held demonstration in front of St. George Church in Tbilisi. One month later they requested the government to give them the explanation on the events of November 7.

One of the demonstrators, poet Lia Naroushvili, said in her conversation with journalists that Georgian society appeals to the world democratic society and sends three principal questions to them which deal with the dispersal of protest demonstration on November 7. More precisely the questions are: Who ordered to disperse peaceful demonstration on November 7? Who used tear gas against fleeing demonstrators in the St. George Church? Why did the government allow itself to commit similar sacrilege? What will the government’s explanation be on dispersing the TV Station “Imedi” which threw the society in complete informational vacuum?”

Lia Naroushvili said that the appeal to the world society is signed by 700 Georgian citizens. Among them are composers, artists and writers. However, she preferred not to mention their names because the government might cerate some problems for them if they learn their names.

The appeal to the world society has already spread through internet in several countries.
