Litigation of the Appeal of GYLA Starts on Thursday

The case deals with the participation of Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava and Minister of Refugees and Replacement Koba Subeliani the election campaign of Presidential candidate Mikheil Saakashvili, specifically that both men meet with voters alongside Saakashvili.

According to Giorgi Chkheidze, the head of GYLA, the Georgian election code forbids public servants from participating in campaign activities during work hours. The law on administrative offences includes a fine for such violations.

Ugulava and Subeliani were at meetings with Saakashvili at about 3 p.m., when civil servants are still fulfilling their duties, breaching current law.

The Tbilisi City Court’s Administrative Board accepted GYLA’s case on December 18.
