A New Photo Is Printed on the Asphalt: “Step on the Dictator”

January 4, 2008

People opposing presidential candidate Mikheil Saakashvili applied to a new form of protest. They printed a black photo of Mikheil Saakashvili on the asphalt and wrote under it: “Step on the dictator.”

Zviad Dzidziguri, the leader of the Conservative Party and the member of the National Council for the General Public Movement, stated in his conversation with the Medianews that he does not know the initiator of the movement. Similar idea has never come to any member of the National Council of the Joint Opposition. “It is not our style to use similar methods,” said Zviad Dzidziguri.

Lasha Chkhartishili, the member of the NGO “Egalitarian Institute”, does not know who has thought of expressing their protest in similar way. “I have not seen that black photo and the message yet. However, I appreciate all kind of peaceful methods to express protest against Saakashvili,” Lasha Chkhartishvili pointed out.

Kakha Dzagania, the ideological secretary of the Labor Party, stated that it was not their initiative to print the photo of the former president on the asphalt. “However, it does not mean that we do not agree with the initiative. We might have used similar method with pleasure,” said Dzagania.

He supposed that the population might have thought of expressing their protest against Saakashvili by stepping on his photo. The population has been disappointed and annoyed by the former president. “If any political party had initiated it, they should definitely have announced it on TV,” said Kakha Dzagania.
