Investigation Needed: Activities of the Kakheti Regional Agency for Social Subsidies

February 19, 2008
Human Rights Center requests the Georgian Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to investigate the activities of the Kakheti Regional Agency for Social Subsidies.

According to the announcements in the organizations many socially very poor people living in their region have address for help but to no avail.  Lawyers affirm that the representatives of the Agency often violate their rights instead of providing assistance.

Extremely poor people are left without help with unknown reasons, or they were receiving some assistance but it was terminated and without any justification.  We have many of such instances at the regional level. Locals who addressed the Agency for Social Subsides are not able to get answer and are neglected in almost all regional department of this governmental agency. People only want to be provided with social help they have even made applications for reconsideration of their cases. Some have done this more than one time. Only after a long wait are their applications reconsidered. It often takes several months and this is horrific. Attorneys have shared information that well off people are being provided assistance and those that really need it cannot even qualify.
