Abkhazian Side Accepts International Responsibility for Returning

April 8, 2008

Temur Iakobashvili, the Georgian State Minister for Reintegration issues, state that if separatist Sokhumi will refuse to accept IDPs in Abkhazia that the Georgian government will take adequate measures in response.

Sergei Baghapsh, the head of Abkhazian de-facto Government statements is based on the agreements they have been signed with Georgian side and these do obliged them to accept the responsibility for receiving IDPs back. They may return to their homeland at such time that the international society recognizes the independence of Abkhazia.

Iakobashvili explained that Abkhazian side took up international responsibility to support Georgian IDPs to return to Abkhazia and they should carry out their responsibilities.

“Baghapsh has acquired a new radical opposition and now he tries to compete with them in radicalism. Thus, similar statements are useful for his inner popularity,” said Iakobashvili.
