Young Members of Republican Party Protest in front of Parliament

April 11, 2008

Today, the youth organization of the Republic Party held a theatrical demonstration in front of the Parliament’s building addressing the candidates for parliamentary membership through a majoritarian system of electing MPs.

The young people put seventy-five sacks of “money” on the stairs to the parliament and called upon the businesspersons introduced by the National Movement to “realize the actual situation this time around”.

“These seventy-five sacks of money symbolically representing the 75 candidates’ hand-selected persons standing for the ruling majority party’s MPs. National Movement’s slogan is “Georgian without Poverty”. Governmental officials are only wishing to keep members of National Movement out of the grip of poverty in order to prolong their rule. They try to bribe Georgian voters at the expense of raiding businesspeople. However, fortunately, the Georgian public cannot be bribed,” said Irakli Kakhidze, the chairperson of the Youth Organization of the Republic Party in an interview with Medianews.

Later the demonstration continued in front of the central office of the National Movement where the demonstrators placed the seventy-five “sacks of money”.
