Political Party “Future Georgia” Protests in front of CEC

Today, “Future Georgia” held a demonstration in front of the building of the Central Election Commission to demand the resignation of Levan Tarkhnishvili, the chairperson of the CEC.

Giorgi Laghidze, the leader of the party, stated that their members have been on hunger-strike in front of the CEC building for the last three days. Today other members will also join them in their efforts and they to will participate in the hunger-strike in turns, at least until their demands are met.

Nobody met the demonstrators from the CEC. The party members intend to hold next demonstration within two days. At the end of the week they are going to hold demonstration in front of the American Embassy.

The CEC did not register the “Future Georgia”. Consequently, they will not take part in the parliamentary elections on May 21 2008.
