UN Extends Peacekeeping Mandate for 6-Months in Georgian-Abkhazian Conflict Zone

Irakli Alasania, Georgian Ambassador to the United Nations positively reacts to the resolution of the UN Security Council over the extension of the UN mandate for the Georgian-Abkhazian Conflict. He stated the UN should immediately discuss peacekeeping initiatives of the Georgian government as the next step.

“First of all I appreciate the part of the resolution dealing with the stability in Kodori Gorge and conditions for the returning IDPs to their homes.  Besides that it is important to have clear impression as to the initiatives that the Georgian president has offered to the Abkhazian side for the purpose of establishing peace in the region,” said Alasania.

The Georgian Ambassador to the UN thanked to all countries that supported the peacekeeping initiatives of Georgia.

The UN Security Council extended the mandate for CIS Peacekeepers for additional six months in the conflict zone.
