Attorneys Demonstrating at the State Chancellery

April 18, 2008

The members of the Association of Georgian Attorneys are holding a demonstration today at the State Chancellery. Zaza Khatiashvili, head of the Association’s striking committee states that their demands remain the same. The attorneys demand a fair system of justice in Georgia that is based on the rule of law court. Additionally, they called for a complete review of the many instances when Georgian law has been violated within the legal system in the last few years.

Khatiashvili called the citizens for joining the demonstration. “Regardless of which political movement comes into force in Georgia, the attorneys must have the opportunity of working independently and hope that the court will make an objective and informed decision. Many citizens have been damaged by the legal proceedings existing at present in Georgia, and they too must join with the demonstration,” stated Zaza Khatiashvili.

The Association of Georgian Attorneys warned officially the City Hall about potential demonstration that may take various forms.
