Directors of the Gori Public Schools Were Punished Because of Academic Competitions

Directors of the Gori based Public Schools were invited to the Gori Municipality board and demanded to censure the academic competitions held at schools. Teachers informed the Human Rights Center that government did not like how students who took part in the competition poked  fun of high-ranking officials.

Concurrent to pre-election campaign, the academic competitions have been under way for already a week; the competitions  was initiated by Gori Municipality Board.

Reportedly, jury members were representatives of the Municipality Board, Youth Palace, Radio “Trialeti” and they did not like the performances of the participants. Consequently, the directors of the schools were severely rebuked for allowing their students to take such freedoms.

Zurab Chkheidze, deputy chairperson of the Municipality Board, reported to the Human Rights Center that school directors received just a basic notice from officials over the pupils use foul language in their performances. The deputy governor tried to persuade us that their discontent was not a result humor concerning public officials.
