Republican Party Member Beaten in Gori

May 30, 2008

Member of the regional organisation of Republican Party Ramin Abuladze has been physically assaulted by 5 masked strangers. Unidentified persons physically attacked Ramin Abuladze, a member of the Republican Party Gori Organization.

The victim reported abusers followed the orders of Giorgi Tatishvili, former single mandate candidate of the National Movement in Gori District. According to Abuladze, Giorgi Tatishvili had been exerting pressure and threats towards him in the late pre-election period. Mr. Abuladze also accuses law enforcement officers for their cooperation in the incident.

Member of the Republic Party claims Tatishvili had threatened him during elections because of his political activities. He was watching Abuladze being beaten from a car.

Tatishvili states the accusations are groundless and calls them absurd. Candidate from the ruling party said he had spent whole day in Tbilisi where he was taking drug test together with other new MPs.

Doctors reported that Ramin Abuladze has pains in his abdomen and head; he has trauma on the head. Reportedly, the investigation is already underway.
