Josef Key Fired Board of Radio “Imedi”

June 2, 2008

Irakli Khetereli, Director General of the Radio “Imedi” and Nona Kandiashvili, its broadcasting director has been fired.

Nona Kandiashvili reported to the “Interpressnews” that yesterday in the evening, when she had already left the office; she was informed that Josef Key had requested her to come to the building of the “TV Imedi”.

“Key was in the room of Bidzina Baratashvili. However, he was not there. Key directly said that he did not want the Radio and TV Companies to be independent. They should not irritate the government. The news channels should be impartial in favor of the government and not against the government.” I do not know what he meant by his words,” said Kandiahshvili.

Kandiashvili added that after she left Key’s room, somebody called her and prohibited from being able to enter the building of the radio.

Kandiashvili reported that Nino Gabriadze, former spokesperson of Davit Tkeshelashvili, State Minister, was then appointed as the Director General of Radio Imedi.

Besides that, Kandiashvili does not know whether the board of the TV Company “Imedi” will be fired or not.

We would remind the readers that on May 14 Civil Case Collegium of the Tbilisi City Court satisfied Josef Key’s appeal on transferring Badri Patarkatsishvili’s property, TV Imedi among them, on him. He also requested to grant him with the right to run the company.
