IDPs and Eco Migrants Are Not Supplied with Electricity Any Longer

June 4, 2008

The building of the former drug hospital was supplied with the electricity in May after a long delay. In June the supply was cut again. Representatives of the “Energo-Pro Georgia” stated that electricity was cut because of accumulated debts. However, the inhabitants of the building had debts in May too. The people state it was “election surprise”.

The population states the supplying them with electricty was part of pre-election campaign. “The elections finished and the supply was cut. They made an election surprise during one month. However, we paid the bill for the spent electricity. The debt is allocated only on our building though the meter was installed in our building only one month ago,” said the people. Currently, 22 IDPs and 26 eco-migrants live in the darkness.

Giorgi Surmava, the PR Manager of the Energo-Pro Georgia, stated the electricity supply was cut of the building because of debts. “We are private company and we are not charity organization. Thus, everybody has to pay the debt. They had debt of 8 000 GEL in April.”

However, Surmava did not explain to us why the building was supplied with electricity in May.
