NGOs Observed Problems during Parliamentary Elections

June 6, 2008

International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy and the Georgian Young Lawyers Association observed 40 election districts throughout Georgia as part of their monitoring of the parliamentary elections back on May 21, 2008.

The project was funded but the Sweden International Development Agency –SDA; technical support was provided by the National Democratic Institution of International Affairs.

The main goal of the project was 24-hour monitoring of 40 DEC in Georgia; the target of the observation was activities of the election district commission and the actual counting of votes.

According to the complaints filed by the International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy and GYLA, unlike presidential elections on January 5, some positive tendencies had been observed during the parliamentary elections,” said Eka Siradze, the director of the International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy.
