Prisoner Fears Being Locked Up

July 17, 2008

B.B, 21, a prisoner in Batumi Prison N.3 refuses to be placed in a cell. He is afraid of other prisoners. He says they will clear up the matter with him as he cooperated with the investigation and gave up the names of his accomplices. The accused demanded to be placed in solitary confinement; otherwise, he would start a hunger strike or inflict injury upon himself.

Giorgi Charkviani, representative of public defender stated the prisoner’s condition is now satisfactory. “I calmed him down and explained that his testimony evidence isn’t the only reason that his accomplices were arrested. Finally, administration of the prison placed him with foreign prisoners in a small cell.” The prisoner B.B. was accused of robbery and he has already been tried and convicted.
