September 5, 2008

Konstantine Gamsakhurdia, leader of political party Tavisupleba (Freedom in Georgian) is demanding that the government immediately free Tsotne Gamsakhurdia, his brother.

Konstantine Gamsakhurdia states that the government continues pursuing the family of Zviad Gamsakhurdia, late president of Georgia, and is also arresting opponents and others that do not support the government and its current policies. “Probably Tsotne Gamsakhurdia will be the first to be arrested in order to whitewash the criminal activities of Mikheil Saakashvili. I address all international and human rights organizations to pressure the Georgian government. I am demanding from Mikheil Saakashvili to set free Tsotne Gamsakhurdia,” states Konstantine Gamsakhurdia in the statement he shared from Switzerland.

The representatives of MIA Counterintelligence Department arrested Tsotne Gamsakhurdia, son of first president of Georgia in September 3rd in Tbilisi International Airport. Gamsakhurdia have been interrogated. His solicitors state that Gamsakhurdia exercised his right to remain silent.

Tsotne Gamsakhurdia is suspected in high treason; attempt to interfere with Constitutional order and intelligence (spying).
