Special Operation Department Representatives Beat Detainee

September 9, 2008

Gocha Kekelidze was beaten by the representatives of Special Operation Department in Batumi on September 2nd. The detainee received several kinds of injuries. Kekelidze’s attorney states that he was beaten by representatives of the SOD.

Nana Andghuladze, attorney of the detainee further states that drugs were planted on Kekelidze to frame him. It was when Kekelidze protested against this crime that he was then assaulted. Kekelidze was also beaten in the SOD office and held there for a total of 7 hours.

Kekelidze’s attorney had been demanding to move the detainee to hospital for several hours. It turned out that Kekelidze’s legs and face was all in bruises and his facial bone had been broken. Lado Mgaloblishvili, the Public Defender’s representative in Adjara Autonomous Republic confirms this fact.

The criminal case has been launched against four SOD representatives.
