Conservative Party Demands List of Soldiers Killed During the War Made Public

September 23, 2008

The Conservative Party demands to publish the exact number and names of all those soldiers who died during military operations in early August.

Goga Bukia, member of the conservative party, stated at the briefing today, that their party has already petitioned to the Ministry of Defense, Interior Ministry and Ministry of Healthcare. However, they have not received any reply yet.

Giga Bukia said that the society has doubt about the number of soldiers who died during the August events in Georgia as it is offered by the government. It is thought that the number of 372 dead soldiers does not demonstrate the actual number killed or missing. Consequently, the society needs the truth and exact number and names of dead soldiers must be announced.

Conservative party has its own data that is incomplete yet. However, their data shows higher numbers than the government claims. Moreover, they should estimate exact number of missing solider and other citizens. It is essential that a list of names must be published,” said Giga Bukia.

The members of the conservative party call upon the temporary commission established based on the parliament’s decision to publish the list of names of killed and lost soldiers.
