105 IDP Families from Abkhazia Evicted from Vocational College for Communications

The Georgian Conservative Party of announced that 105 Abkhazian IDP families were evicted from the building of the Vocational College for Communications in Bogdan Khmelnitski str. 48; these people were forced out by local authority and supported by police officers.

Members of the political party demand to find alternative accommodation for IDPs and launch criminal persecution against law enforcers who illegally evicted these people.

Lana Galdava, an independent expert stated that 105 IDP families from Abkhazia sheltered into the building based on the permission of the Georgian Ministry of Refugees and Accommodation back in August. She added that before that several other IDP families from Abkhazia lived in that building.

“Although they had permission to live in the building of the vocational college, the IDPs were forced out of the building. At night of October 2 police officers of the Isan-Samgori district police department evicted the IDPs under physical force. One juvenile was injured during the eviction; he fell off out of his wheelchair.

We demand in the name of the Conservative Party to find alternative accommodation for IDPs who are currently in the territory of the factory # 31. We have video-recording of the police officers’ harassment against the IDPs.  We also demand to start investigation on this incident,” said Lana Galdava, She added that the Ministry of Refugees and Accommodation us refusing to make comments about the incident.

The Conservative Party has shared the video materials of incident to the media representatives.
