Human Rights Centre Telavi District Court Accuses of Oppressing Attorney

October 27, 2008
Human Rights Centre accuses Natela Jashiashvili, judge of the Telavi district court, for having oppressed the lawyer of the same organization.

Lawyer Nino Andriashvili represents Archil Jorjadze at the Telavi district court. Jorjadze was lecturer at Telavi State University but several days before the parliamentary elections of May 21 2008. Later, it is said that he was fired from the university on political grounds. During the trial Natela Jashiashvili threatened the lawyer to dismiss from the court room, and as for Archil Jorjadze, she threatened the petitioner with having to pay a fine and imprisonment.

“The judge did not allow us speak; she blocked all remarks and I protested. So she threatened me and stated that I would not be allowed into the court room at 11: 00 AM tomorrow, October 28 when next trail on the case will be conducted. The judge ordered the bailiffs to arrest me if I do not obey her orders,” said Nino Andriashvili.

Telavi district court does not comment on the reported facts of this incident.
