Lagodekhi District Governor Insulted Socially Excluded People

November 10, 2008

Gia Gozalishvili, Lagodekhi district governor, has insulted socially excluded people and called them beggars. The victims of these insults were reported the Human Rights Center.

Residents of the village of Chiauri in Lagodekhi district stated that according to the announcements made in the administrative building, the district governor should meet citizens on Wednesdays and Friday. However people cannot are not able to meet with Gozalishvili. “I have visited the administrative building to meet the governor several times but we could not see him during the official visiting days for public meetings. We even called him by phone and requested to meet us in his free time. But he did not let us say our request to the end and cut the line saying he was busy. We have little child who is ill and needs s medical operation. Our family is very poor but cannot receive any allowance. Neither have we have any medical insurance. We wanted to urge the district governor to transfer at least small part of the operation payment. We met him at the entrance of the administrative building and tried to explain to him our problem. He did not listen to us and instead cried out, “I am tired of so many beggars,” and went away,” said locals.

Lagodekhi district governor denies the fact of having insulted socially excluded people. He claimed that citizens have never faced any difficulties in meeting with him.
