The Inhabitants of Shida Kartli Villages Deprived of Electricity Ask Government to Pay their Electricity Bills

November 13, 2008

Lado Vardzelashvili, Shida Kartli Regional Governor met with residents of Shida Karli at Regional Governor’s Office in Gori. The people protested against the cutting of electricity to their homes. They demanded that the government pay their electricity arrears.

Vardzelashvili stated that energy distribution company Energo- Pro Georgia cut off electricity to the inhabitants of 38 villages in Gori District as a result of unpaid arrears.

“The four months of unpaid electricity usage (July, August, September and October) amounts to 497,030 GEL. Due to the fact that there was armed conflict in August, the state takes responsibility of covering the months of August and September, which equates to 154,631 GEL for those 38 villages. As for July and October (when there was no war in Georgia), the population had been informed that the state would not pay for those two months. However, I will inform the government and we will try to allocate additional funds and cover their July and October electricity bills and I help people to the best of my ability.”
