The Legal Division of MIA to Adjudicate Journalists’ Administrative Appeal

November 19, 2008

The Legal Division of the HR and Organizational Department of MIA will discuss the administrative appeal of Gela Mtivlishvili, journalist. The administrative appeal is a request to the Legal Division within the MIA to order Kakheti Regional Main Division of MIA and Akhmeta District Division to grant public information to Gela Mtivlishvili.

The journalist applied to the Akhmeta District Division of the MIA on September 2, 2008 and requested public information about how many investigations in the Akhmeta District Division ceased in 2008 and what were the reasons behind such ceasing of investigations. The journalist received the answer late, with the violation of official terms of granting public information. It was indicated in the answer that the right of freedom of information is not subject to MIA bodies. The journalist appealed this official answer in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.

The MIA Legal Division will adjudicate the journalist’s administrative appeal at 16:00 p.m., November 19.
