The Human Rights Center demands that the employees of the Telavi District Division of MIA are punished for torturing citizens Aleksi Bakhutov and Irakli Tsitsishvili.
The employees of Telavi Police Department arrested citizen Aleksi Bakhutov on June 27, 2007 on charges of premeditated murder of Lasha Chopikashvili. Aleksi Bakhutov and his stepson Irakli Tsitsishvili who was detained for participating in the criminal act of Bakhutov were beaten into a confession in Napareuli Department of Telavi District Division. Gocha Noghashvili and other police officers pulled cellophane over Bakhutov’s head, dragged him with a car and severely beat him.
The fact that Bakhutov was beaten can be proved by a record from the MIA Kvareli District Temporary Detention Isolator Suspect Registration Record Book.
Even though a criminal case was launched on inhuman treatment against Bakhutov and Tsitsishvili, the Kakheti Regional Prosecutor’s Office has not yet detained the alleged perpetrators – the police officers
It is noteworthy that after Telavi District Court sentenced Bakhutov to 9 years in prison for Lasha Chopikashvili’s premeditated murder, it turned out that Chopikashvili was actually still alive.
