The inhabitants of village Erisimedi, Sighnaghi District are left with other choice but to drink water from the river. This has been their plight for the last 5 months, which causes many problems, as locals say that as the river water is not clean. Everybody now living in the village is suffering from stomach aches and related complications.
The Human Rights Center found out that the Sighnaghi District Governor’s Office spent about 50,000 GEL in 2006-2008 on solving the problem of drinking water in Erisimedi village, which is situated at the Georgian-Azerbaijani border. However, the village still does not have drinking till the present time.
Koba Lekiashvili, chairperson of Sighnaghi body of self governance - Sakrebulo does not comment on such an allegation.
Several families have already moved from the village due to the lack of drinking water. Neither central nor local government is interested in solving the problems facing this border village.
