Edward Kokoiti, head of de facto South Ossetian government denies that education in Georgian language was banned in Akhalgori District. He said that no one has right to ban education on Georgian language in Georgian villages of the Akhalgori District.
“The ethnic Georgians who are the citizens of South Ossetia have the same rights as people of other nationalities and these rights are covered under the Constitution of South Ossetia,” says the leader of the breakaway region.
He made this statement after Russian human rights organization Memorial published information about the grave situation that locals faced in the Akhalgori District.
The representatives of Memorial informed that the schools of Akhalgori District had been looted and shot up and Georgian villages were emptied and the schools still functioning were banned from being able to teach the Georgian language.
