The Human Rights Center received information that the Gurjaani Art School with about 100 students might close down due to unbearable conditions they face.
The Gurjaani Municipality relocated Art School twice in the last 2 years. First it was relocated because the election HQ of Giorgi Ghviliashvili, Gurjaani District single mandate MP candidate and the present Kakheti Regional Governor was placed in the school building. Then the building, the art school was reloaced was owned by Gurjaani body for a self governance unit and then it was bought by Sergi Kakalashvili and Davit Lipartashvili, businesspersons for 37,000 GEL.
Now the art school occupies only four rooms in Gurjaani Center of Culture. The conditions are so terrible there that parents do not allow their children to go to the art school any more. The classroom walls are covered with mould. The rooms are not heated as well and this keeps children from being able to attend classes in cold weather.
The art school principal said that they had requested the Municipality to increase the school budget. However, their attempt did not bring positive results.
