Investigation Started over Assault of Citizens by Patrol Police officers

Kakheti regional prosecutor’s office started an investigation of assaults againsts citizens in Telavi, the regional centre of the region, on October 28.  The people are claimed to have been beaten by police officers of the Kakheti Department of the Internal Ministry.

The Human Rights Centre, a non-governmental organization appealed to the prosecutor’s office and requested that a criminal investigation be opened into the alleged beating incident.

The representatives of the center state that their lawyers have witnessed how law enforcers inflicted injury upon citizens and afterwards would arrest and further beat them.

According to Kakheti regional prosecutor’s office, the pre-trial investigation was launched under the Article 332 paragraph I of the Criminal Code. The crime envisages a term of three-years in imprisonment.
