Farmers in Kakheti Region Cannot Use Tractors Presented by President

February 11, 2009

“It is easier to see you and president than those tractor operators who were put in charge of tractors,” said farmers to Bakur Kvezereli, Minister of Agriculture of Georgia yesterday on live TV-program on regional TV Company “Gurjaani”. Residents of the village of Vejini in Gurjaani district were particularly active about this problem.

“Former and current officials got hold of those tractors; they have several hectares of land and tractor operators have to work on their plots; they will never find time to help us,” said farmers and asked the minister to assist them.

Bakur Kvezereli stated that not only Kakheti residents but farmers in other regions also cope with similar problem. “The problem has resulted from the small number of tractors rather than injustice. We monitor the activities of fellowships that are in charge of tractors. If we find any violations in their activities we will change both members and boards of fellowships,” said the Minister of Agriculture.
