Population Is Deprived from the Ownership on the Land

March 5, 2009

Khelvachauri district Commission on Granting Ownership to Citizens deprived plots from 125 families. The commission abolished its own decisions enacted last year.

Residents of the district do not exclude possibility that local high-ranking officials got interested in their land and consequently, they were deprived from their properties. “Maybe, as our plots were located on the coastline, certain people decided to get hold of them. Why did they register those plots on us if it was illegal?”

Roin Malakmadze, chairperson of the Commission on Granting Ownership to Citizens, (who is also chairperson of the Khelvachauri municipality board), stated that “assigned plots were located in the zone of perspective development of the resort infrastructure of the region. Consequently, ownership on those plots is restricted.”
