Journalists Were Awarded

April 9, 2009

“Institute for War and Peace Reporting” “International Transparency-Georgia” and Coalition for the Rights of IDPs nominated the winner journalists and photo-reporters who worked on the issues of internally displaced people.

Article, “IDPs Are Forced to Return to Knolvei Village” prepared by Nona Suvarian took the first place. The article was published on the website of the Human Rights Center, www.humanirhgts.ge

Article “IDPs Are Fed with Worst Bread” prepared by Tea Bliadze took the second place. The article was published by the independent newspaper “Timer” that is published in Kvemo Kartli region.

Levan Kherkheulidze won the competition of photographers.

The aim of the competition was awareness-raising of the society about the current situation of people who were internally displaced as a result of war operations in August 2008.

The winner journalist was awarded with 300 Euro and special certificate; the journalist on the second place was awarded with 150 Euro; the author of the best photo received 200 Euro.

The award ceremony was organized in the office of the IWPR on April 8, 2009.
