Zakaria Kinkladze to Appeal Judgment of Telavi Court

June 25, 2012

Head of Akhmeta district office of the Coalition Georgian Dream Zakaria Kinkladze will appeal the judgment of the Telavi District Court on imposing 25-day administrative imprisonment on him.

Kinkladze’s lawyer Keti Zakariashvili told ICK she had met Kinkladze in Kvareli pre-detention setting at 2:30 am last night. “First of all I asked him whether he had any injuries on the body, or if he had subjected to physical assault. Doctors had already examined him and he had no injuries. He was desperate. Kinkladze said he had requested the judge not to hold trail without his lawyer but they did not allow him to call me. We will appeal the judgment of the district court and demand immediate release of Zakaria Kinkladze,” Keti Zakariashvili said.

Akhmeta district police arrested Zakaria Kinkladze at about 1:00 pm on June 24. Initially he was interrogated as a witness in the criminal case. An employee of the Akhmeta district administration Paata Sukhishvili sued him at the police and blamed him in hooliganism. Later, police changed the qualification of the case and continued investigation under administrative law. Despite testimonies of eye-witnesses, who claimed that Kinkladze had not committed crime of hooliganism, Judge Labaza Duishvili at Telavi district court sentenced Kinkladze to 25-day administrative imprisonment. The judge conducted the trial without lawyer, journalists and other interested persons.
