More than 1000 inmates of Geguti Prison # 14 have been on hunger-strike for three days already. They request revision of their cases and meeting with the Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee of Human Rights Eka Beselia.

Deputy chair of the Parliamentary Committee Gedevan Popkhadze met the prisoners on hunger-strike. “They are not aggressive and do not request anything particular. They do not speak in ultimatum language. Simply, they request revision of their cases,” Popkhadze said.

Regional attorney of the Public Defender also visited prisoners on hunger-strike. Public Defender Ucha Nanuashvili clarified that the only way to resolve the problem is creation of special mechanism to revise the judgments of the prisoners.

Public Defender thinks it will require some time though it is important to speed up the process and create this mechanism as soon as possible.
