GPB Trustee Selection Commission shortlists 27 candidates for voting

Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) Board of Trustees Candidates Selection Commission has selected the 27 candidates that will be nominated to Parliament for voting.  The list was published at the official Facebook page of the Selection Commission.
 
andidates Geno Geladze, Iago Kachkachishvili, David Mchedlidze, Natela Sakhokia, Ucha Seturi and Jana Javakhishvili received votes from all nine members of the Commission. 

8 votes have been received by Lela Gaprindashvili and Nino Lomjaria.  Seven members of the Commission voted for Irakli Abesadze, Ketevan Kintsurashvili, Giorgi Lobzhanidze, Mikheil Mirziashvili, Ketevan Mskhiladze and Anna Dziapshipa. 

Six members of the Commission voted for Ninia Kakabadze, Zviad Kirtava and Nazi Janezashvili. 

Other 10 candidates received 5 votes each:  Giorgi Apkhazava, Alexandre Vakhtangov, Giorgi Kokhreidze, Marina Muskhelishvili, Izabella Osipova, Joseph Salukvadze, Nugzar Suaridze, Konstantine Chlaidze, Khatuna Chlaidze and Eliso Janashia. 

The Selection Commission shortlisted 27 candidates from 35 applicants after interviewing them.  Merab Odisharia, David Tsintsadze, Vasil Kacharava, Otar Shaorshadze, Merab Katamadze, Irakli Papava, Teimuraz Koride and Tamar Dekanosidze did not pass the interview. 

Selection Commission members were Ia Antadze, Nino Bekishvili, Zviad Devdariani, Natia Kapanadze, Natia Kuprashvili, Arnold Stepanya, Zviad Koridze and Tamar Joluguia.  All 9 members attended the session. 
 
From these 27, 3 candidates will be selected by Parliamentary majority, 3 by minority, 1 by Adjara Supreme Council and 2 by the Public Defender.  Total of 9 Trustees will be selected. 

Board of Trustees of the GPB was dismissed this October after two Trustees left it.  Before that term of four Trustees expired and two positions became vacant one year before; nobody expressed desire to apply tfor these two vacancies.  Due to that Parliament fastened coming into force of the formation of the Board of Trustees according to the new norms, which according to the Law on Broadcasting were to come into force starting 2014. 

If Parliament does not approve any of the candidates, new candidates will be nominated within 10 days.  If again none of the candidates receive majority votes, approved will be counted a candidate who receives votes from not less than 1/3 of listed MPs.  If none of the candidates are supported by 1/3 of MPs a new competition is announced. 

After the Board will be formed by new rules a ballot will be conducted among the new Trustees and the terms for their authority will be defined.  According to the draft law three Trustees are elected for 2 years, three for 4 years and three for 6 years.
