Controversy at Lanchkhuti District Local Self-Governmental Bodies Continue

February 24, 2014

Nino Mshvidobadze, Lanchkhuti

Short time ago, chairmen of two fractions at the Lanchkhuti municipal board requested impeachment of the board chairman Amiran Gigineishvili. The latter responded to their statement and said.

“I will write application on resignation before they request impeachment.”

According to our information, Amiran Gigineishvili had already decided to write resignation application but situation changed. In parallel to these processes, leader of the Free Democrats’ Lanchkhuti office Elguja Chkhaidze spread statement in social network: “Guria regional governor has oppressing chairman of Lanchkhuti municipal board for several days to fire interim district governor Zaza Urushadze; the latter has been on the position since 2012. Regional governor is supported by the UNM MPs and members of the Social Democratic Party, who are former UNM members. Regional governor relies on their support, so it is more likely that our hard work will be wasted. After this information was spread, regional governor and chairman of the municipal board were invited to Tbilisi. Regional governor’s unreasonable plans shall be cancelled.”

Several days ago, Guria regional governor invited Amiran Gigineishvili to the center of Lesi village and met him near the patrol station. Governor Giorgi Chkheidze did not deny information about their meeting but claimed they talked about business and did not intimidate the municipal board chairman at all. “I met him about some business but I cannot comment on it.”

The regional governor said everything will be clarified very soon. “Nobody has ever demanded anything from him. It is purposefully spread rumors. Everything will be cleared up. I do not know who wanted to spread similar disinformation,” the regional governor said.

Several hours after their meeting in Lesa, governor and Amiran Gigineishvili traveled to Tbilisi. According to our information, it happened after Gigineishvili publicly stated his desire to write resignation letter and after regional governor personally requested him not to write the application. Reportedly, information about alleged oppression on Gigineishvili had reached the parliamentary fraction of the Georgian Dream and it was reason of their trip to Tbilisi although both parties spread controversial information. Giorgi Chkhaidze said he had not gone to the capital together with the municipal board chairman and it was simple coincidence. However, Amiran Gigineishvili confirmed that he was in Tbilisi together with the regional governor for the meeting in the state chancellery. “I am travelling to the chancellery together with the regional governor; this is the only information I have,” the board chairman said.

“We talked about two main issues. First of them was situation in the Lanchkhuti municipal board and fraction; second was about infrastructural projects. The meeting did not last long. We noted that debates between coalition powers was healthy process before elections,” Gigineishvili said and added that chairmen of Chokhatauri and Ozurgeti municipal boards were not at the meeting. “I was there because topics you raised attracted their attention; so Lanckhuti district was under particular interest,” the chairman said.

Amiran Gigineishvili clarified nobody mentioned his possible resignation and will continue his activities in future too.
