Shorena Kakabadze, Kutaisi
Local inhabitants protested painting of Vasil Kikvidze’s statue in one of the central streets of Kutaisi.
“Painting and moving statues around is not correct. If they protest something, why should they damage statues? In any case, it is nasty behavior,” people living close to Kikvidze Square complained.
Member of the Kutaisi City Council Gia Gokadze from the United National Movement petitioned to the interim mayor and then to the prime-minister with the request to remove the statue from the area.
In his interview with media Gokadze said “if his request will not be responded by the government, he would paint the statue of the leader of the Red Army into red.”
UNM member kept his promise. The case was sent to Kutaisi police and investigation was started into hooliganism fact.
