Today, April 23rd, at 13:00 pm Human Rights Center will present its report Georgian Media in Transitional Period (2012-2014) in the conference hall of the Human Rights House Tbilisi.
The Report was prepared with financial support of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and covers most significant developments in Georgian media in 2012-2014.
According to the Report, regardless recent positive changes in the field, Georgian media still faces many problems and challenges. Lack of analytic publications, superficial coverage of facts, insufficient investigative journalism, negligence of Ethic principles – it is incomplete list of current problems in Georgian media.
The Report reflects recent crisis in the Public Broadcaster, which originated short time ago and still leaves the GPB without Board of Trustees.
Human Rights Center believes it is essential for the follow-up processes that state takes rapid and effective measures to switch to digital broadcasting; it means elaboration of counter mechanisms against monopoly in the field, public awareness raising about digital broadcasting and more engagement of civil society in the process.
Also, it is also essential to work out more effective self-regulating mechanisms to better ensure protection of journalistic ethic standards.
Human Rights Center kindly invites all stakeholders interested in the current situation in Georgian media to the presentation of the report.
