Changes about Placement Election-Agitation Materials

April 29, 2014

Maka Malakmadze, Adjara

Batumi City Council introduced changes into the resolution on the placement of election posters during pre-election period. Council members unanimously voted for the decision of the April 24 special session.

According to the old edition, election posters could be placed only in special boards in the vicinities of the Old Batumi. For the upcoming June 15 Local Self-Governmental Elections materials can be placed on the facades of political parties’ offices. Physical persons will have chance to post posters of their favorite candidates or election subjects on their flat or shop windows only from inside. As for other buildings, the acting version of the law is still in force and it will be forbidden to place agitation materials on the facades of the buildings in Old Batumi.

Representatives of the Batumi City Council explained the necessity of amendments with the experience from the past elections – since majority of political parties had offices in the forbidden zone, they still had posters on their facades.

The City Council listed buildings, where election subjects will have chance to hold meetings during pre-election campaign. They are: Batumi Summer Theatre and Concert Hall of the Batumi State Naval Academy.
