“Rights of Convicts and Their Protection Mechanisms” – Human Rights Center presents new report

On June 25th, at 13:00 pm in the conference hall of the Human Rights House Tbilisi, Human Rights Center will present the Report “Rights of Convicts and Their Protection Mechanisms.” 

The Report was prepared with the financial support of National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and it covers problems, challenges and recommendations of the penitentiary system of Georgia throughout 2013-2014

The Report  explores the current problems in the Georgian penitentiary system: death of convicts; breached healthcare rights of prisoners; torture, physical abuse and inhuman treatment cases and ineffective investigation of the facts; necessity of public monitoring in prisons, etc. 

The Report was prepared  in accordance with the practice of Human Rights Center’s lawyers and is based on the concrete cases into which the organization was involved. The Report analysis reforms in the penitentiary system throughout 2013 and in the first half of 2014. The Report describes the challenges and positive trends of the reform. 

The Report presents recommendations to the Parliament of Georgia and Ministry of Corrections of Georgia.
